For over 20 years, Youth Tennis San Diego (YTSD) has been a cornerstone of community development in the City Heights neighborhood. Through our long-standing partnership with Price Philanthropies and the City Heights Recreation Center, we are able to provide more than just tennis lessons — we've built a space where children and families can thrive, connect, and grow together. The Urban Village has become a "hub" within the inner city for tennis, friendships and fun! During the after school hours, the courts come alive with the laughter of children playing, encouragement from coaches, and the excitement of tournaments! It’s here that young players not only improve their tennis skills, but also have an opportunity to create a sense of belonging, and build connections and lasting friendships with their peers on the courts.
While tennis is at the heart of all that we do, our programs go far beyond the sport itself. We recognize that a well-rounded program can have a lasting and more meaningful impact. That’s why, in addition to tennis instruction, we offer homework assistance, fitness classes, art projects, and even weekly parent tennis clinics. Our monthly events — including field days, holiday festivals, and weekend tournaments — give families and neighbors a chance to come together and create lasting memories. (All of which is provided to every participant at no charge.)
One of the most rewarding aspects of the program is watching players evolve into leaders. Whether it's leading their high school tennis team or returning to our courts as a coach, we couldn’t be more proud of the growth our players experience while participating in our programs. We believe that as a community, we can create a love for the sport and positively impact the lives of our youth each and every day. We are grateful the Urban Village Recreation Center has become a place for tennis, but also where bonds are forged, friendships are made, and the community thrives. We kindly thank our community sponsors and our community coaches for their continued dedication and support, and we look forward to many more years on the courts in City Heights!
